Hannes Seidl: Commune – A Happening
How do we want to live together? This is the question explored by the happening ‚Commune‘. For five hours each day, musicians and artists activate the exhibition spaces of basis e. V. through music, performances, and collective readings. Roland Barthes’ ideal of an idiorrhythmic community is brought to life for three days: a community in which everyone lives according to their own rhythm, makes music independently, yet remains attentive to others. Gatherings in the form of dialogues, trios, or choirs emerge at irregular intervals and dissolve again in favor of a simultaneity of togetherness.
Three musicians from the Danish ensemble SCENATET inhabit the six rooms, while the Academic Workers’ Choir celebrates the pulse of ‚Commune‘ with a hymn.
In addition, two guests are invited each day. Artists from Frankfurt integrate their own works and thus expand the community. From an almost silent performance to electronic improvisations and DJ sets, ‚Commune‘ opens itself to the richness of the local scene.
